Thirty-three years up trees

Arboriscapes has been working on trees across Worthing and the West Sussex coast since 1992. It started with Paul, who has spent his working life as a climbing arborist, and it is still family-run today.

That length of time in one patch means most of the trees we look after, we have looked after before. We know which ones on which streets have preservation orders, which gardens the chipper will not fit down, and which species around here will forgive a hard cut and which will not.

What we are qualified to do

Our climbers hold NPTC certification, which is legally required to use a chainsaw at height in the UK. We carry public liability insurance and are happy to send the current certificate over before any work starts; ask and we will email it with the quote.

We work to BS3998, the British Standard for tree work. In practice that is the difference between a reduction that keeps a tree's shape and holds for years, and topping, which leaves stubs, invites decay and creates a bigger problem five years later. We do not top trees.

How we work

Quotes are free, on site, and carry no obligation. We do not price from photographs. Access, the drop zone, what sits underneath and the tree's actual condition all change the job, and none of them show up in a picture.

We check for active birds' nests before starting any job between March and August, as the law requires, and for bats in cavities and loose bark before dismantling. If a tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, we make the application to the council as part of the job rather than leaving you to it.

At the end, the site is cleared, raked and swept. Logs stay with you if you want them for firewood; otherwise they go with us.

Not just a contractor

It is a small outfit, not a call centre. When you ring, you get someone who has been up the tree. When we are on site we work around what matters to you: the pond, the borders, the bit of lawn you have been nursing all summer.
